…that no-one will talk about!

Part II (The conversation)

(A big thanks to that nice kind lady for being such a good sport too! Mary is quite obviously not her real name, but the sentiment is exactly as it appeared during our ever so friendly ‘spat’ with neither of us wanting to give way to the other, just as we all do in all other things Brexit!)

Luci:
Mary, you did not respond to my asking whether you would still remain despite everything the EU is planning to implement. Does this mean that you are prepared to embrace their measures and stay, or recognise that we would in no way accept those proposals so perhaps it might be better to leave after all – do tell, please 😢
You never know, you might be able to have your cake and eat it – but only if they decide to agree to those ‘impossible’ British demands, as usual!
Mary:
Indeed!
Luci:
Indeed, as in accept the new proposals forthcoming in the EU if we remain?
Mary:
I really hope we remain
Luci:
To finally drag this out from you, you hope that we remain – but will you accept joining both the Euro and the new European Super State which can overrule our own Parliament;
Or remain and continue to reject all the big initiatives from Strasbourg? Simples!
Mary:
Reform from within : it doesn’t suit anyone. Silly idea to build a super state, clearly!
Luci:
Do you now see why I titled my other blog post ‘have your Brexit cake and eat it’ We would want to remain, but reject all the major initiatives, which is why I say that we will be better off without them as we cannot bring ourselves to comply.
You just sign up for the bits you like and ignore the rest.
Mary:
What I’m most anxious about is the loss of the safety net in agriculture and food; protection of human and workers rights; the loss of the European Court of Human Rights…. that was the reason these capitalists who are driving the leave campaign want to leave. We are having the wool pulled over our eyes. Democracy is being not just compromised but totally blown apart by these 80 very rich Tory businessmen. It better not happen. Similar to what has happened in poor old Russia. Bandits in charge
Luci:
You are right of course but no-one can ever apply for half-membership of any club. You say continue the fight against the rulers from within but in all honesty, if we cannot make the big commitment then we would have to leave sooner or later or wait for them to kick us out for not adopting all of their rules, this is again why realistically we, Britain and the EU are ideologically opposed
Just now updated the blog, not sure if you have seen this so here is that link again
http://fedupwithit.co.uk/blog/2019/03/13/why-cant-i-have-my-cake-and-eat-it/
Mary:
Most European countries are dissatisfied with EU.
Luci:
In that case, the EU is dead and Brexit is a lost cause
I mean remain of course
Brexit lives forever, Freddie (Queen)
Mary:
So much room for positive change – what a waste of life for 2 plus years – they could have made real ground in making the EU a viable and progressive body – not a silly single currency and state!!! How inappropriate! 😜
Luci:
So you do now agree that remaking will be akin to ‘flogging a dead horse’ then
Remaining, I hate this stupid phone making corrections after I type
Mary:
Remember, the leave campaign was financed by A$ron B$$ks, a dodge dealer and a crook
Luci:
You are not focused on the ‘big’ picture. Yes, they are all big bad money grabbing b^st^rds, but the EU still do have some nasty surprises waiting for us – Brexit or NO BREXIT
Mary:
Yes, we will have to pay god knows what leaving fee for causing all this extra work for the EU bureaucrats
Luci:
Does this mean that you are finally coming around to my way of thinking on this matter???
And I do not gloat
Just feel sad that we are all being duped
Mary:
No – I am not satisfied at all by EU, but, to leave the trading partners in which you do 70% of your trade, to follow crooks like B$nks, R££smo££ and B*r*s, who are telling us to jump off a high cliff, is stupid. We can trade with other countries -look at Germany and China. We need the protection from big business that the EU gives us. We must not leave : to leave is like lemmings
Luci:
This is why we are in such a big mess because trade-wise we must stay but no one here in Britain wants to give up the Pound and adopt the Euro, or surrender our sovereignty to Brussels, what a choice to make
Mary:
We’ll do whatever works.
Mary:
I agree about kicking and screaming 😱 and not being full member but it might well work in our favour to go into the Euro- put a stop to all the wheeling and dealing and laundering in the city
Luci:
OK, one down and one to go. What about surrendering power to Brussels, losing the British Passport, and being part of a larger European Armed Force with no independence to send in our ‘boys’ any time we choose???
Would you embrace all of this too!
And what if they decide to promote French or German as the de facto language over and above English in all schools, colleges, and universities and the corridors of the EU establishments???
Be careful what you may wish for!
Mary:
What choice do we have to not join in a fight when the Americans whistle? As Peter Hennessy said on an Any Questions discussion a year or more ago, the UK lost sovereignty in 1949, I think it was, when joining NATO. It’s all a load of rubbish – tell B*r*s he is a specialist at telling porky pies
Luci:
You would make a very good politician because they too answer a question by firing off another from themselves in order to deflect, very good tactics 👏
You cannot ever move on without first addressing the pile of rubbish in front of you first
Mary:
I take the compliment! The EU is fighting for its survival. If we do leave, and it will be a big disaster if we do, there will be others wanting to. The project is a failure : it is not viable to build a super state. Look at the good things about it: it has prevented war between neighbours – who have made war for ever. Yugoslavia was something else – Tito, who held those different countries together, finally died, and there were some big issues outstanding. It is very good to meet regularly and talk. This prevents war. Also good to build ties by trading with one another. People are beginning to reform the CAP. We need to update and reform the EU.
Luci:
Absolutely right, but put that to the ruling council in Strasbourg and you will get a very firm ‘non’ and ‘nein’, which is ’up yours’ if you happen to be British
{Much later} Luci:
Hi Mary, I have a very strange request that I am about to make and please think before you say yes or no! I would like your permission to use the bulk of our conversation thread as my next blog post. I would remove all references to yourself of course and you will simply be the ‘ardent’ non-brexiteer, ha ha
Mary:
Happy to be of assistance?!
{Much later} Mary:
Have you signed the Parliamentary Petition on NOT leaving Europe? 3 million plus on day 2!!!
Luci:
Will NOT be signing 😤
Mary:
I thought you were against the bad businessmen driving this appalling takeover?
Luci:
Mary my maxim is this, stay in the club and abide by ALL the rules – otherwise LEAVE with dignity and pride. Forget the businessmen and all other ‘distractions’, just stay focussed
Mary:
When all our manufacturing moves out and there are no jobs and everything costs a lot more so everyone is very much worse off, and the pound is worth 20p – I don’t think anyone will thank those who opted leave : people have not been told what leave means.
Luci:
Then do please remain
But then do not decline to adopt the Euro, European Central Government, Unified Army, and any other proposal that we do not happen to ‘like’ such as uncontrolled freedom of movement between our peoples!
The trouble is we all want our cake and eat it, or drag our feet and cry about the bits that we don’t like – and just smile about the good things that being in this club provides. Spoilt child comes into my mind when you look at the position adopted by those who wish to remain, but only on their terms…
Another post in the making now becomes so obvious…

The big elephant in the room that no-one will talk about.

Do a portrayal of which the picture looks like if we remain, a very graphic one at that too!

Ponder why the big politicians will not even discuss this due to the potential fallout and decline in support from their own followers.

What would we do if we remain, but the E.U. then begin to play ‘hardball’ and then make the remain option conditional, like immediately adopting the Euro for instance?

How much of our own identity and sovereignty are we prepared to cede to the E.U. [Just a little, or go the whole hog?]

Answers on a postcard please, so the saying goes 😝

Finally, if you can square that circle as above – then by all means stay – but now you actually do know what we are letting ourselves in for
Mary:
Shame we got into this mess in first place. We must have another public vote : people now have an idea of what leave means.

Luci:
C’est la vie!

Darling you got to let me know, should I stay or should I go! (Not you dear! Do please hang on a just little longer Theresa until they find a good replacement!)
